New trends always offer plenty of food for thought. Joining the bandwagon is food photography which is now growing by leaps and bounds. As soon as the food comes on the table, the tendency is not to relish it but to photograph it, post it on social media platforms and let the world drool over it. This urge of taking a photographs of food and sharing it has been aptly called ‘food porn’. Bengalureans too have much on the platter when it comes to displaying their skills in food photography.

Pradeep Gopal is an amateur food photographer, and he has been into this for quite some time. “I often click pictures of food that looks delicious and share it on different social media platforms. I put up my photographs on Instagram. It gives an option to follow people with similar interest, and in this case, a lot of food photographers are active on Instagram.”

He adds, “For me, it is a way to show my gratitude and appreciation to the chef who has put in so much hard work for making it look delicious and beautiful. There is no cool quotient behind posting my food photos, it is to showcase someone’s hard work. It’s not about me.”

However, according to Pradeep, “Food photography is a more classic term whereas when one uses the term ‘food porn’, it instantly instills an urge to eat and relish a particular food by clicking it then and there.”

Sweta Nair, a food photography enthusiasts, also shares her thoughts about it. “I use Instagram and Facebook to share the pictures I click. The beauty of the food plate appeals to me and often drives

me to capture that moment. I have heard a lot of people use the word ‘food porn’ instead of food photography. Since the term pornography is used with food, it highlights the image of anything edible in a way that diffuses the sense of satisfaction or pleasure,” she explains.

Food photography is getting popular among youngsters too. Some say that it is a factor of being cool yet others debate that it is all about their interest and a way to appreciate good food.

Moreover, many find social media platforms very helpful and handy while sharing their images.

“Food photographs makes food look more tempting and help people express their interests. I have an interest in cooking and through my photos, I can talk about my passion for the same. I often use Instagram as it allows one to use more filters to enhance the images, making it extremely delicious and exciting. It is also very handy,” adds Nikita Hazarika, a food photography enthusiast.
