Indo-Japan discussions at advanced stage: Govt

The government was negotiating a comprehensive economic partnership pact with Japan and also a trade and investments agreement and these were at an “advanced stage,” he said.

He further said the inclusion of Japan and China markets in the Focus Market Scheme announced by the Commerce and Industry Ministry recently would help doubling of India’s share in the global trade (presently 2.9 per cent) by 2014.
“China and Japan are two big markets. I hope these markets will help... it has been taken considering the long term of view of achieving the target of doubling India’s share of global trade by 2014,” he said.

Further. the minister also said that the negotiations were on with Malaysia for a comprehensive economic cooperation agreement which would be concluded later this year.
