Five 'rights activists' sent behind bars

The gang included a woman

Five persons, including a woman, in the guise of human rights activists, robbing and kidnapping people, have been arrested by Udaygiri Police.

Announcing this to media, here on Tuesday, Police Commissioner B Dayananda said, the accused Syed Nazim alias Nazim Pasha of Ghousianagar; Raziq Pasha alias Raziq, 24 years, Rajiv Nagar; Amanulla Baigh, 22, Ghousianagar; Zakir, 24, and Stella, 27 years, Raghavendra Nagar, Mysuru were the so called rights activists.

The five, who had claimed to be the members of Human Rights and Anti-corruption Organisation, New Delhi, had robbed a youth of his cellphone and two-wheeler, after levelling baseless allegations against him. 

In another case, they had kidnapped a youth and had even tried to extort ransom, when the policemen reached them. Two more accused in the case are absconding.

Following their arrest, the police have recovered a scooter worth Rs 50,000 and a cellphone worth Rs 13,000.

The police team, led by Inspector Santosh P P, consisted of Sub-Inspectors Bhaskar V and Hafeeza Begum, according to the commissioner.

Shopkeeper held

Lashkar police have arrested a shopkeeper on the charge of duplicating a mobile phone product that was stopped several months ago and selling it.

Natharam, aged 39 years, proprietor of Mahadev Telecom, K T Street, Lakshkar Mohalla, is the accused. A total of 11 cellphones of ‘C343 model’ of Celkon company have been seized from his shop.

This follows a complaint from Area Sales Manager of Celkon Impex, Sanath Kumar P. 

In his complaint Kumar had stated that the shopkeeper had duplicated the logo of the company and was selling the C343 model of the phone, the production of which was stopped six months ago. The police team was led by Inspector H M Kantharaj.
