Cent per cent electrification of the district should be a reality soon, said District Electricity Committee President and MP C S Puttaraju.

Presiding over the committee meeting, in Mandya, on Tuesday, Puttaraju said, even the remotest village in the district should be electrified, utilising the Central schemes.

He said, the Central government has introduced a comprehensive power scheme, which should be utilised by the Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (Cesc).

The scheme keeps in mind the power supply required for agriculture and industries sector and an effort has been made to balance it, he added.

MLA K S Puttannaiah, who was also present, expressed happiness over balancing the power supply and understanding the importance of the agriculture sector.

There will not be any problem if the demand and production is equal, he opined. The Cesc officials informed that there is no major problem as power is supplied as per the demand.

MLA Ramesh Babu Bandisiddegowda pointed out the failure of the officials to repair defunct transformers at various places in Srirangapatna taluk, despite lodging several complaints.

Cesc Superintending Engineer Shivaprasad said, taluk-wise list under the scheme has already been prepared. While the Centre is funding 60 per cent for it, 30 per cent would be availed through loans, the remaining 10 per cent will be borne by Cesc, he added.

MLA D C Thammanna said, Cesc has sought lands at Kudnuragundi village in Maddur taluk for establishing a power sub-station. The authorities who had assured the availability of 44 acres are now saying only four acres could be spared. The MLA asked the deputy commissioner to order a probe into the issue.
