The select committee of the State Legislative Council, constituted to study the merits and demerits of trifurcating the BBMP, will be submitting its report to the Council shortly.

MLC and Minister S R Patil, who heads the committee, told reporters that the officers who visited Chennai and other cities to study the functioning of the local bodies, have given their study report to the committee. Patil chaired the sixth meeting of the committee on Tuesday.

The BS Patil committee, which is also studying the trifurcation issue, will submit its report to the government by June-end. The committee has already submitted its two interim reports. The select committee would give a comprehensive report after considering all the relevant reports, he added.

Patil, in his capacity as IT&BT Minister, chaired a meeting to review the progress of the ITIR region proposed near the international airport in Devanahalli. He told officials that the Hudco had already sanctioned Rs 1,000 crore loan for the project. Officials should implement it at the earliest, he said.
