Techie held for supplying drugs to rave parties

Narcotics Control Bureau’s (NCB) Bengaluru zonal unit on Wednesday arrested a software engineer in the City on the charge of drug peddling. 

The accused has been identified as Venkat Subramanian. He is a native of Coimbatore and used to sell drugs to rave parties in Tamil Nadu and in Bengaluru.

The NCB officials have seized deadliest hallucinogen – LSD (Lysergic Acid Diethylamide) and MDMA (Methylenedioxy-N-Methylamphetamine) from the accused.

Based on definite clues, the NCB officials arrested Venkat when he was selling the contraband. Later, they searched his apartment in Vignan Nagar and seized various drugs.

According to NCB officials, Venkat’s mother is a doctor in Coimbatore. He had come to the City around eight years ago.

“Venkat had studied at Amrita Institute of Engineering. He was working in a leading multinational company. He was a drug addict and was collecting drugs from various sources. We had the information that one person would collect contraband from him and supply to parties. The probe so far has revealed that he used to supply drugs to rave parties that take place in Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu and other places,” an NCB official said.

One gram of LSD or MDMA would be sufficient to prepare around 30,000 doses. As per the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), 0.1 gm of such deadliest drugs are considered to be as commercial quantity. LSD is the most powerful hallucinogen known to man till date.

They are used as party and recreational drugs. These drugs affect the central nervous system by producing perceptual alterations, intense and varying emotional changes, ego distortions and may lead to cardiac arrest, schizophrenia and also death, he said. 

“The accused was arrested and produced before a special court on Wednesday. Upon interrogation, we found that he had a well-connected network,which also includes social media. He was in constant touch with certain (drug) peddlers from Nigeria, other African countries and also from Goa,” the official said.  

Zonal Director of NCB Sunil Kumar Sinha said it was the  third case this year in which LSD drug had been seized. 

“The officials have seized 5.8 gm of LSD in paper format, 9 gm of LSD in crystal. This apart, 3 gm of cocaine, 0.5 gm of MDMA, 2.5 gm of hashish and 40 gm of ganja have bene seized from the accused.
