The High Court on Wednesday has directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Lokayukta probing into illegal granite quarries not to arrest the quarry owners in Bagalkot district.
Hearing a petition by 55 granite companies challenging the notice issued by SIT, Justice Venugopala Gowda has directed the Lokayukta to file objections in this connection. The petitioners, Sampath Raj Bora and others, have moved the High Court challenging the notice issued by SIT in the last week of April, directing them to appear before it with documents for verification.
However, the Lokayukta submitted that it has issued notice only to verify the documents, not to arrest them. The matter has been adjourned.
