'Gram Vikas' to commence on October 2, says Patil

Ground-level work pertaining to State government’s “Gram Vikas” programme for overall development of villages will commence from October 2.

Addressing a press conference in Bengaluru on Thursday, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil said five villages in each of the Assembly constituencies with rural segments would be identified for the project.

Rs 750-cr project

The project, taken up at a cost of Rs 750 crore, involves improving roads and drains in villages, construction of open air theatre and libraries, renovation of places of worship, infrastructure for telecasting live proceedings of gram panchayats on local channels among others. Funds to the tune of Rs 75 lakh will be released for each village identified for the project, the minister said.

Patil said MLAs will identify the villages for the project in their respective constituencies. Civil works should start by October 2 this year and completed within one year, he said.
