Former Lokayukta S Santosh Hegde criticised the amendments being introduced to the Lokayukta Act, here, on Saturday.

After releasing a book ‘Nyayavaadi H Hanumegowda’, he said, some sections of the Act, which were crucial to address the grievances of the public are being omitted in the amendment.

He said, his tenure as Lokayukta in the State helped him understand the injustice in the society. He blamed that the lack of humanity and satisfaction as causes for the problems faced by the world today. “Humanity and satisfaction has disappeared from humans. Irrespective of the wealth a man accumulates, he is never satisfied,” he said.

The society is worshipping power and wealth. Honesty and faithfulness are on a decline, he lamented.

Criticising the education system, he said, values have disappeared. It is as if the only value is money. Even parents want their children to earn more wealth. Due to such greed, corruption is so prevalent that it is difficult to find honest persons in any organisation, he said.

Writer K S Bhagvan, speaking at the programme raised concerns over the prevalence of casteism and migration to urban areas in the country.

Today, we are living in a world where children are unaware about the life in villages, he said.
