Adarsh shines in thriller

Cricket: Bangalore Zone claim innings honours

 HS Adarsh shone bright with the ball as Bangalore Zone survived by the skin of their teeth to eke out innings honours in their drawn encounter against Dharwad Zone in the S A Srinivasan memorial trophy under-23 cricket tournament here at the Alur (2) ground on Saturday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 93/2, in reply to Bangalore’s 317 all out, Dharwad stayed in hunt for three points for an innings lead despite Adarsh (6/53) chipping away with wickets at regular intervals.

Mohammed Azeem (92), Samarth Ooty (66) and Darshan Patil (40) made valuable contributions as Dharwad came within sniffing distance of innings lead. Bangalore, however, held their nerve to skittle Dharwad for 312 in 84.2 overs to take a narrow five-run lead.

In another match, Bangalore City took home three points after their match against Shimoga Zone ended in a draw at the RWF ground.

Resuming from their overnight score of 110 for one, in response to Shimoga’s first innings score of 236 all out, Bangalore City declared at a handsome total of 339 for seven, taking a lead of 103 runs.

Prateeksh (56), Sujit Gowda (82), Rakshith Shivakumar (53 n.o.) and Nithin Naidu (55) scored half centuries to dominate proceedings, as Shimoga bowlers failed to pick wickets at regular intervals and impose pressure on their opponents.

In their second essay, Shimoga scored 137 for three at the end of the day, with HR Vijay Kumar being the top scorer with 51.

Sumanth Bharadwaj, who slammed a ton in the first innings (110), was out for 42 while HH Srirag contributed 32.

At Alur (1), Mysore Zone took a 34-run lead to gain three points from their drawn encounter against Mangalore Zone. After Mangalore scored 257 all out in their first innings, Mysore Zone declared for 291 for nine. In their second essay, Mangalore were 111 for four, when the match ended in a draw.

At Alur (3): Tumkur Zone: 268 all out in 87.1 overs drew President’s XI: 326 all out in 78.2 overs (Mashooq Hussain 52, Rahul Kashyap 39, Jayesh Babu 52, Vyshak V 66, Likith Bannur 46, Rahul Gautam 25; Suresh H Karani 7-105, Syed Mustafa 3-69). President’s XI: 3 points; Tumkur Zone: 1 point.

At Alur (1): Mangalore Zone: 257 all out in 83.2 overs and 111/4 in 27 overs (Gopal Shetty 35, Karthik Shetty 28) drew Mysore Zone: 291/9 in 85.5 overs (G Pavan 68, K Arun 86; Ritesh Bhatkal 2-52, Gopal Shetty 3-33). Mysore Zone: 3; Mangalore Zone: 1.
