Man held for wife's murder

A man, suspecting his wife’s fidelity, murdered and buried her in a vacant land at Venkatala in Yelahanka.

According to the police, the accused, Ashok, 24, a tender coconut and fruit vendor, was residing with his wife, Meenakshi, 21, at Venkatala. Meenakshi, who hails from Bagepalli, was married to Ashok three years ago and the couple had no children.

On June 25, Meenakshi’s mother Lakshmi, a resident of Manjunath Nagar, lodged a missing complaint with the Yelahanka police, stating that she was not able to get in touch with her daughter. When she failed to reach Meenakshi several times on her mobile, she called Ashok, who informed her that Meenakshi had gone missing from the Kempe Gowda bus stand, after they returned from a visit to Tirupati.

Upon interrogation, Ashok confessed that they had been quarrelling over the past few months over Meenakshi’s extramarital affair. On June 20, they had fought again and in a fit of rage, he killed her with a machete and buried her body in a vacant land near their residence. He showed the police where he had buried the body, which was exhumed. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
