Advocate urges SC to set up effective creche

A woman advocate has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking direction to set up an “effective” creche or day care centre for wards of the advocates, their associates  and employees of the top court.

In deference to the long-pending demands, the SC had already established a creche in new lawyers chamber building to be operational from Wednesday.

Petitioner Anindita Pujari challenged the notification fixing the age of children to be admitted in the creche between 6 month to 2 years, calling it unreasonable.

She also contended the people, being recruited only on contractual basis for taking care of children were not required to have specialised knowledge, which was the basic requirement.

The petition settled by senior advocate Indira Jaising stated that if the provision for a day care centre was to be made effective, it has to cater to the needs of children upto 6 years, who required care.

“Unless the provision for Crèche/ Day Care Centre for children is made in the Supreme Court premises, which is currently being built, and which shall have a direct and easy access to the main Supreme Court building, the parents and children availing the facility in its current location, shall face serious traffic issues, and shall hazard the risk of the crossing the road during the court working hours,” the petition said.
