The Rs 13-crore project will benefit 228 villages in the taluk. The work is scheduled to be completed within six months, said legislator N Sampangi at a press meet in Taluk Panchayat office here on Monday.

The taluk is getting power supply from 220 KV sub-station in Gauribidanur. As the  transmission of power was facing several problems,  land has been identified for setting up a  sub-station, near Mittemari in Bagepalli taluk, he said.

Dr  D M Nanjundappa Committee on regional imbalances had identified Bagepalli as the most backward taluk. The people of the taluk have been facing power famine for decades and “Nirantara Jyothi” will go a long way in ensuring uninterrupted power.
Students, hospitals and educational institutions stand to gain from the project, Sampangi stated.

Referring to the road widening in the town, the MLA opined that the work could have been completed without any obstacles if “proper decisions” were taken in 2004, when the proposal was mooted. “The proposal has turned out to be a five-year plan. However, it cannot be opposed for any reason as wider roads would benefit people. Footpath would be constructed on both sides. Instructions have been issued to remove the debris of demolished buildings,” he said.

CM to visit Bagepalli

Chikkaballapur Deputy Commissioner Anwar Pasha conducted a meeting of the officers here on Monday in view of the Chief Minister’s visit scheduled for February 2.

Chief Minister Yeddyurappa will launch work on supplying flouride-free water from Chitravati barrage to 130 villages of Bagepalli and Gudibande taluks. The DC instructed the officers to make all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the programme.

Legislator N Sampangi, Zilla Panchayat vice-president Chenduru Venkatesh, Assistant Commissioner G V Seenappa, Taluk Panchayat executive officer Dr B Srinivas, DySP Duggappa and others were present in the meeting.
