Maharashtra-based senior Indian Information Services (IIS) officer Prashant Pathrabe was on Friday appointed the director of the crisis-ridden Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.

Pathrabe, a 1992-batch officer and formerdirector of the National Film Archive of India, said he would try his best to resolve the ongoing problem in the FTII over the appointment of veteran actor Gajendra Chauhan as its chairman.

FTII Students Association (FSA) members have been protesting against Chauhan’s appointment for over a month. They have also been boycotting classes despite requests made by the government.

Several actors and filmmakers came out in support of the agitating students, putting the authorities under more pressure.

Pathrabe, an MBA from IIM-A and a veteran in the media field for nearly two decades, having worked in Doordarshan News and AIR News in Mumbai, was asked to take the charge by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as the tenure of incumbent DJ Narain came to en end.

Pathrabe said it was a “difficult situation” but he would try to meet the expectations of the ministry.
