Council nod for three bills

Three bills, including the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2015, that seeks to regularise unauthorised constructions in rural areas on government lands were passed in the Legislative Council on Saturday.

The Karnataka Transgenic and Genetically Modified Cotton Seeds (Fixation of Sale Price and Payment of Compensation) Bill, 2015, and the Karnataka State Motor Vehicle (Special Provisions) Bill, 2015, were also passed without any discussion.

The BJP and the JD(S) members staged a walkout protesting the government’s decision to introduce these bills at the eleventh hour. Efforts to convince the Opposition members went in vain.

The bills have already been passed by the Legislative Assembly.
