FKCCI bats for ease of doing business

In the backdrop of Karnataka losing out Hero MotoCorp and Posco investments to other states, industry body Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) urged the Karnataka government to fasten the process of clearing the approvals for setting up new companies.

Briefing reporters, FKCCI President R Dwarakanath said, “We should not miss out on important investment opportunities and we would love to have Hero MotoCorp and Posco back in Karnataka. But what is more important is not to lose sight of what investments Karnataka has attracted over the last few years.”

He asked, “If a project has been lost, has the Government of Karnataka been sensitive to the situation? Have they taken any action to prevent such occurrences and attract investments?” Coming down  heavily on the state government, Dwarakanath lamented, “There is a single window clearance...but...window is single...but it is very wide.”

He cited the example of Japanese investments. “Under the single-window clearance mechanism, the government gave permission for three acres of land in Narsapura (Kolar district).

“Afterwards, they had to approach another agency, KIADB, for allotment, where it got stuck for months. What we expect is the clearance should happen little bit easier and faster.”

FKCCI urged the government to provide land to SMEs  in a lease-cum-sale for less than two acres. “For a small investor it is a big investment. The government has promised to look into the matter,” he said.

FKCCI, which is celebrating its 100th year of service to the industry, trade and service sectors in Karnataka, is setting up the Sir M V Research Cell to study on the MSME sector.
