Road in front of Soudha reopens

Last Updated 06 August 2015, 19:37 IST

The stretch of road between the Vidhana Soudha and Gopal Gowda Circle on B R Ambedkar Veedhi, which was closed to facilitate Namma Metro work over four-and-a-half years ago, was thrown open for traffic on Thursday.

Vehicles zipped past the Vidhana Soudha overlooking the High Court building. The stretch had been cordoned off and vehicles had to take alternative routes to reach their destinations.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) started working in the area in 2010 and has completed the civil works at the Metro stations below, including the Vidhana Soudha station. Tunnelling work towards Cubbon Park station, Sir M Visvesvaraya station and beyond has also been completed.

Beautification work

The 300-metre corridor between Gopala Gowda Circle and the High Court main gate was shut for traffic about five years ago.

Metro Rail Corporation officials say that though the road has been opened for public use, the beautification work will follow by the Horticulture department to restore the greenery in the area.

The statues which were removed earlier will be reinstalled once the entire work is over and the underground stations start functioning.
