Devaiah clinches 400M gold

In a closely fought contest, Devaiah TS of DYSS took top honours by beating Siddarth MG in the 400M boys’ under-18 race on the penultimate day of the Bangalore Urban District Athletic Association Junior Championship here on Friday.

Clocking 52 seconds, Devaiah held off a stiff opposition from Siddarth also from DYSS, who finished close second at 52.2 seconds.

DYSS athletes secured all three podium positions in the event as Hanmarth RP (52.09) came home third.

Pavan Yadav of DYSS struck gold in the 400M boys under-16 category as he clocked 57 while a fierce battle ensued behind him for second place.

Three runners were split by a hundreth of a second each with Bhanu Prakash JS from Jain Public School (58.01) and CTF’s Indrajit HK (58.2) securing second and third places respectively.  

The 400M girls under-20 category saw Indian Athletic Academy dominate completely as the three athletes that qualified for the finals of the event represented the same club.
Kavya S, who settled for second place for most of the race, made her move on Sashikala M in the last 100 metres and triumphed in fine fashion.
  
Kavya timed 1:14.09 while Shashikala crossed the finish line in 1:15.3. Chaithra L finished a distant third as she timed 1:32.8.
