Vimal steps down as KBA president

Last Updated 08 August 2015, 21:06 IST

U Vimal Kumar has resigned as the president of the Karnataka Badminton Association with immediate effect on Saturday.

Vimal presided over the association from December 2013 and cited an increase in coaching commitments as the primary reason for his resignation.

Speaking of his tenure, Vimal said, “ It has been an honour and a privilege for me to do my bit towards badminton development and administration through the KBA.

“I am extremely grateful for the support and cooperation I have recived from the KBA committee,” he added.

Vimal will, in addition to increased coaching commitments, have a hectic travel schedule in the run up to the 2016 Rio Olympics.“It was never my intention to serve only for a curtailed term, but circumstances have played out in such a way that I am now duty bound to dedicate my entire time and attention to my coaching obligations,” he said.

His next assignment will be to travel to the World Badminton Championships in Indonesia as Saina Nehwal’s coach.
