Last Updated 11 August 2015, 20:02 IST

Tension prevailed for hours at the BBMP ward office in JB Nagar on Monday after workers of the BJP and the Congress came to blows over using the BBMP office.

The local police and the BBMP authorities held meetings with both the groups and controlled the situation. Complaints and counter-complaints were filed by the BJP and the Congress.

There is only one BBMP office for two wards - New Thippasandra (58) and JB Nagar (88). The office was occupied by former corporator and local BJP leader Chandrashekhar. He had not vacated the office after his term had expired, said sources.

JB Nagar ward Youth Congress president John Paul spotted Chandrashekhar and his men carrying out some work at the office late on Monday night.

“Chandrashekhar and his associates were misusing the office facilities. They were creating fake voter identity cards. There were 238 fake voter identity cards and 150 stamp-size photos,” Guruprasad, a Congress worker said.

Office raided
Paul and his associates raided the office and objected to Chandrashekhar using the office. Chandrashekhar’s associates claimed they had permission to use the office and objected to Paul raiding the office.

The situation went out of control and both the groups tried to rough up each other. The police rushed to the spot after receiving the information and controlled the situation.

Cases have been booked against Chandrashekhar and Paul under IPC Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
