Debt-ridden farmer ends life in Shahapur

A debt-ridden farmer ended his life by hanging himself at his house in the early hours of Thursday. Siddappa Sharanappa Pagad, a 56-year-old resident of Sagar village in Shahapur taluk, is the deceased. He is survived by four daughters, a son and wife.

The family members were asleep when Siddappa took the extreme step. Siddappa owned four acres of land and was frustrated over crop loss. He had borrowed loans to the tune of Rs 6 lakh from various sources.

His family members informed that Siddappa was also depressed that he was unable to repay loans. A case has been registered at the Shahapur police station in this regard.
