Punjab, Odisha sulk over PM's package to Bihar

A day after Prime Minister Modi announced a special economic package for Bihar, subtle voices of dissent are being expressed by the ruling Akali Dal in Punjab, an ally NDA.

The state government, it appears, is feeling “overlooked” in its long-standing demand for a special package on similar lines to the one announced for Bihar.

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Wednesday said that the “state deserves this package the most in the country”. Badal said it was high time the government takes a call on this issue for giving a fillip to overall development of the state.

“We are not seeking any concession from the government, but special economic package is our right,” Badal said. The chief minister added that the state government would leave no stone unturned for getting the package for the state. The CM expressed his unequivocal views on the issue while interacting with media persons on the sidelines of sangat darshan programme held in Lambi assembly segment on Wednesday.

Badal said the state has contributed enormously in national freedom struggle, making the country self-reliant in food production, safeguarding the borders of country from external invasion and preserving its unity and integrity.

The chief minister added that he had flagged up this issue with the government a number of times and now again he will vehemently plead for a special package for Punjab.
