If Vatal Nagaraj is known for his bizarre protests, his party’s manifesto for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike elections is doubly bizarre.

The president of Vatal Chaluvali Paksha has promised a donkey development board for the comprehensive development and protection of the animals, free haircuts for people, free buttermilk, juice, milk and water, in the event of his party winning the Palike elections.

The manifesto also promises a no-holds-barred celebration of Valentine’s Day and encourages love marriage with a Rs 50,000 gift to each couple.

However, the party has some serious issues, too, on its agenda – such as providing free sarees to poor women, two pairs of footwear to the poor, construction of 5,000 toilets and urinals, besides a clean Bengaluru, clean drains, ABC programme for dogs, Rs 50,000 for the marriage of poor women, free ambulance facility, hygiene at hotels, reducing food wastage, reduction in cinema ticket rates, construction of 100 wedding halls, funds for mass marriages, construction of 25 Rangamandiras, special facilities to civic workers, mosquito menace control, suspension of all kinds of lottery, free bus pass for senior citizens, proper burial grounds, protection of environment, bird conservation, etc.
The pro-Kannada party has also promised more advertisments to Kannada publications, funds for staging Kannada plays, Kannada folk festivals and Kannada programmes, construction of Kannada Bhavans in every ward, installation of statues of Kuvempu, D R Bendre and Shivaram Karanth in every ward, employment of only Kannada medium students to the BBMP.

Listed items are important
Speaking with Deccan Herald, Nagaraj said the items listed in the manifesto were important and needed for the City.

“I have also demanded that no apartments should be constructed unless the whole blueprint and all details related to  construction are made public. This is needed for the safety of the citizens.”

The party is contesting the Palike polls for the second time. It has fielded candidates from three wards - Nandini Layout, Gandhinagar and Hanumanthnagar with autorickshaw as the symbol.
