'Belavadikere project will be completed by August'

Residents of Hanike and Kodikoppal villages flay the project

  The residents have been left high and dry due to implementation of Belavadikere water project. MLA C T Ravi held inspection of the project on Friday. During his visit women of the said villages spoke about their problems and said that they have no water to drink and no land to live on. Ever since the project was implemented they have been having sleepless nights.

“We are ready to die and kill for our land. Come what may we shall never desert our land,” they said.

However Ravi consoled the farmers by saying that he too hails from an agriculture family had hence knows the problems faced by farmers. “ I will not let anything wrong happen to farmers. I will try my level best to provide more compensation,” he said.

Later, addressing the reporters Ravi said that the first phase of Belavadikere project will be completed by August and the entire project will cost about Rs 13 crore.

He said that first phase will cost Rs 4 crore and a sum of Rs 1.25 crore has ben paid to the contractors.  “The project will have a canal of 45 kms. The construction of 3 bridges on State Highway and 2 bridges on district roads are pending,” he said.

He said that the dreams of the people of the region will be fulfiled soon with the completion of the project.

“Land acquisition has been taken up in some places but large area of land is yet to be acquired. Good compensation will be provided to farmers and they will also be allowed to utilise water from the project,” he said and added that the second phase will be completed in January.
