Mandya bandh successful

Last Updated 22 August 2015, 19:45 IST

Streets in Mandya wore a deserted look as shops and restaurants pulled their shutters down on Saturday as part of the bandh called to protest the State government’s “lackadaisical attitude” towards farmer suicides.

However, vehicular traffic on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway was not affected.
The agitators urged the government to resume operation of the sugar factories in the district for the benefit of sugar cane growers, waive farm loans, hand over the probe into the irregularities in Mysore Sugar Company to the CBI and find a solution to tackle the prevailing crisis in the agriculture sector.

While shops, hotels, restaurants, petrol bunks and offices shut down voluntarily, educational institutions and government offices were forced to closed down for the day. Bazaar Street, Bus Stand Road, Jain Street, VV Road among others wore a deserted look.
The bandh call was given by Janapara Kriya Vedike and supported by Raitha Sangha, Janashakthi, DSS and others.
