A 25-year-old businessman, who was walking towards a polling booth at a government school in Shivajinagar to cast his vote in the BBMP elections on Saturday morning, was killed when a dry branch of a tree on the school premises fell on him.

The police identified the deceased as Fayaz Ahmed, a resident of Cunningham Road, who owned a footwear shop on Chinmaya Mission Hospital Road in Indiranagar.

At around 8.20 am, the police said, Ahmed parked his car near the school and asked his parents to proceed to the polling station. He locked the car and walked towards the booth when the tree branch fell on his head. He collapsed on the ground, bleeding severly.

The police personnel and the people near the booth rushed him to Bowring Hospital in a van. However, doctors declared Ahmed dead at 9.05 am. Ahmed belonged to the Sampangiramanagar ward in the Shivajinagar Assembly constituency. The Commercial Street police have registered a case of unnatural death.
