Priority for cleanliness, modern facilities at APMC, promises officer

APMC president S T Chandregowda initiated cleanliness work at APMC in Chikkamagaluru on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that cleanliness would be given first priority along with providing various facilities. Funds have been released for asphalting of roads and tender process has been completed for a drinking water unit. A plan is being drawn towards the construction of toilets, bathrooms and also a separate parking space for lorries.

Grants have been released for construction of a state-of-the-art godown with one thousand metric tonnes capacity under National Krishi Vikas Yojana. The tender process for the same is yet to be completed. As much as Rs 25 lakh has been sanctioned for development of rural shandy market at Aldur and the tender process is complete. Various development works have been taken up by the department for providing facilities to farmers and merchants, said Chandregowda.

He meanwhile called upon the farmers and the merchants to co-operate in maintaining cleanliness on the APMC premises. Cleanliness has to be maintained so as to prevent the spread of contagious diseases on the APMC premises. The vegetable wastes should be disposed at the identified spaces only.

Hefty fines will be levied on those who litter the premises. APMC Secretary Chandrashekhar, Engineer Manjunath, Assistant Secretary Mohan, Director Yogananda and staff Shivakumar were present.
