Shocked by the attack on Malleshappa Madivalappa Kalburgi, former Vice-Chancellor, Hampi University, researchers and writers from across the City gathered at Town Hall Sunday evening to mourn his death and condemn the murder.
Renowned kannada writers including Barguru Ramachandrappa, K Marulasiddappa and Girish Karnad were among the others who were present. Karnad who regarded Kalburgi as a good friend of his said that he was an open personality. “He would create controversies many a time. This was good enouigh evidence to show his fearlessness,” he added.
Condemning the attack, he said, “This is not a part of Kannada culture to have someone killed just because he has said something unpleasent or not acceptable to a section of people.”
Film director and writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa said that it is time that writers and ideologists keep aside their individual differences and form an organisation. “Even if there are other reasons apart from his ideological differences that lead to his killing, it is not acceptable,” he added.
