Last Updated 08 September 2015, 02:25 IST

Two men who shot dead a software engineer on August 30 for refusing to roll down his car windows during a robbery bid in Noida have been arrested in east Delhi. The duo also fired at a Delhi Police team when their motorcycle was intercepted at Geeta Colony in the wee hours of Monday.

“Two shots were fired, but nobody was hurt,” said B S Gurjar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East). The interrogation of Mohammad Mehfooz and Mohammad Abid has revealed their involvement in over 40 robberies in Delhi and NCR. At their instance, their two accomplices were also nabbed.

Sachin Sehrawat, the engineer killed by them, had recently joined Samsung in Noida and was in the process of shifting when the incident took place. His father works as a sub-inspector with Haryana Police in Rohtak.

Sachin and his brother Tarun were heading to Noida from Rohtak on August 30 when they stopped their car in Noida Sector-24 to relieve themselves. Sachin was driving the car. Mehfooz and Abid who were nearby had noticed gold chains around the two brothers’ necks.

“Unable to rob them right over there, they chased them on a motorcycle for a brief distance before intercepting them at a traffic signal. But the occupants of the car refused to roll down the car windows or open the door,” Gurjar added. Tarun survived the shooting with a bullet to his abdomen.

Despite being hit thrice, Sachin managed to drive the car away from the robbers. He died later. Police were clueless about the identity of the assailants. Late on Sunday, Delhi Police received a tip-off about the suspects arriving in Delhi.

“We had inputs that they would be armed and that they do not hesitate to fire at police if obstructed. Our men in bullet-proof jackets laid a trap and nabbed them,” Gurjar said.

Their accomplices have been identified as Haji Nasruddin and Yasir. Two years ago, Haji and his family members were arrested by Kerala Police for robbing two kilos of gold.
