Nimhans director revokes order to remove registrar

Trouble brew at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (Nimhans), yet again, after its director Dr P Satish Chandra issued orders for the removal of the Registrar Dr Shekar on Monday.

Dr Chandra, however, recalled the order on Tuesday after the staff at India’s premier mental healthcare centre threatened to stage a demonstration against the removal of Dr Shekar as registrar.

On Monday, the director had issued an order asking Dr Shekar, HoD, Department of Psychiatric Social Work, to relinquish registrar’s post for Dr P R Raju. However, the staff expressed displeasure about the same.

While sources said that a section of the employees were planning to stage a demonstration against the order of removing Dr Shekar, Dr Chandra tried to downplay it by saying nothing of that sort was planned. Sources said that there were two meetings during which the top officials of the institute discussed the issue. “The orders were passed on Monday so that the senior most faculty of the institute Dr Raju could take charge. The staff approached me unanimously requesting that Dr Shekar continue as the registrar. Hence the orders were taken back. They did not threaten to go on a strike” Dr Chandra added.
