If all goes well, 25th and the last ruler of the erstwhile princely State of Mysore (now Mysuru) Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar, sealed in statue at Hardinge Circle near the Palace, will be the Dasara gift for Mysureans.

The works are expected to be completed within this month, ahead of Dasara, scheduled to be held from October 14 to 23.

On Saturday, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, wife of the late royal scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, and her son Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar took a close look of the statue in the making at the workshop behind Command Area Development Authority (CADA) office near Basaveshwara Circle here on Saturday.

City Corporation Commissioner C G Betsurmath, who inspected the work along with the members of the erstwhile royal family, told reporters that the work on the statue is expected to be completed within a fortnight. A majority of the works on building the pedestal and dome like shelter at the circle has been completed. All the works will be completed before Dasara.

Pramoda Devi said, “I am extremely happy that the statue will come along the row of circles that is already decorated with the statues of the erstwhile rulers Chamarajendra Wadiyar X (at Chamarajendra Wadiyar Circle) and Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar (at K R Circle).

Sculptor Arun Yogiraj said finishing touches are being given to the statue. Development Officer of MCC zone one Nagabushan Aradhya said the city corporation is spending Rs 5 crore on the project.
