A quickfire 26-ball 43 by No 5 batsman Chethan Williams paved the way for Hubli Tigers’ convincing 24-run win over Mysuru Warrirors in the Karnatka Premier League IV here on Tuesday.

The right-hander was instrumental in the Tigers reaching a decent total of 155/7, after which they restricted Mysuru to 131/8 in 20 overs.

Four overs into the chase, the local outfit began losing wickets as the team lost momentum and fell short of the required runs. Skipper CM Gautam struggled to score a 33-ball 30 while J Suchith was the only player who showed some purpose when he came to bat.

The left-hander slammed 27 from 16 balls, but could not replicate his innings from Monday as Warriors were stifled and eventualy fell short.

Kishore Kamath shone with the ball for the Tigers as he picked up 3/12 in three overs, while SL Akshay (2/12) and Kranthi Kumar (2/15) also chipped in.

Winning the toss, Hubli Tigers began well through their openers Mohammad Taha (37) and KB Pawan (36). However, from being 75 for no loss, the team lost their way to find themselves on 87 for four in the 14th over.

While Taha and Pawan kept the crowd entertained, it was Chethan who propped up the Hubli total. Along with Dikshanshu Negi (18), Chethan added 46 runs for the sixth wicket before a mix-up saw him being run out.

For the Warriors, Anand Doddamani stood out with the ball as he picked up 3/22 in his four overs.

“It was a good wicket to bat on and the bowlers bowled in my range. I am happy that I could contribute to my team’s victory.

“I think we are picking up momentum at the right time and hope to continue this streak in our next game,” said Chethan, who was adjudged the man of the match. Hubli Tigers are now on seven points, while Mysuru Warriors have two.

Today’s fixtures: Hubli Tigers vs Bellary Tuskers (1.30 pm); Bijapur Bulls vs Belagavi Panthers (5.30 pm).
