The funds earmarked for Vikas Sankalpa Utsav is about Rs 64 lakh.

The government has entrusted the BBMP to take care of the preparations at the college grounds. The Chief Engineer of South Zone has been looking after setting up the stage and stalls. The pendal with water-proof roof has been laid so that the programme would go on smoothly even if it rains. The work has been allotted to a contractor by calling tenders.

It will be a show of strength by the Yeddyurappa cabinet on Sunday. It is said all 33 ministers will be seated on the dais along with the Chief Minister.

BBMP Commissioner S Subramanya said the stage can accommodate 150 people, while the seating arrangements will be for 25,000 people. The total expenditure would be borne by BBMP, BMTC, BDA and BMRCL, the commissioner said.

Some beneficiaries of welfare schemes such as Sandhya Surkasha, Bhagyalakshmi and Arogya Kavacha besides beneficiaries of SC/ST development corporations are going to be presented with cheques, official sources said.

Exhibition

The government wants to showcase its development in the form of a two-day exhibition starting on Saturday at 11 am. Arrangements have been made for 48 stalls in the grounds. Boards, corporations and departments would exhibit their achievement in the last year in the stalls allotted to them.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation will park its volvo-buses at the venue. BDA, BBMP, BMRCL, BWSSB, BMTC will exhibit their growth through posters and brochures. A few agencies are also coming up with short films.

Information Department has designed a special booklet with highlights of the state government’s achievements in the year. It has ordered for printing of 25,000 booklets, which will be distributed among the public during the function on May 31.

The BJP government, which is already in the jubilant over its results in the LS elections, is now chanting slogan - “Tumbitu varusha, tanditu harusha” (meaning the year passed brought happiness). This exactly what the government intends to tom-tom among the public by organising the bash.

The government is all set to take full mileage out of its year long in office. The government’s budget for publicising its work in electronic and print media may cross Rs one crore, official sources said.

The celebration on Sunday begins with Janapada Jatre at 10 am followed by  CM’s address. In the next fifteen days similar programmes will be held in all four revenue divisions of the state.
