The BJP on Sunday accused Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi of taking the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remain in news.

Addressing a press meet in Bengaluru, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu accused Rahul Gandhi of being “childish and immature” by repeatedly targetting Modi and his  government as “suit boot ki sarkar” (implying government for the rich).

“He (Rahul) is talking about suit boot forgetting that his grandfather and father Rajiv Gandhi used to wear suit boot. Are you criticising your grandfather and father ? Are you ridiculing them?,”  Naidu sought to know.

Naidu asked Rahul to think before he spoke. “There should be some maturity in what you speak. Do not be childish and immature by making such cheap comments against the Prime Minister of the country”, he said.

Naidu said the NDA government had launched several social security schemes for the poor. It was now focusing on the lower middle class by  unveiling Mudra Yojana - credit for the ordinary small traders, street vendors and unemployed youth on September 25.

Naidu also accused the Congress government of acquiring lakhs of acres of land from poor farmers without paying them proper compensation. He claimed the Congress government in Haryana alone had acquired 80,000 acres from farmers and then denotified 20,000 acres. Naidu dared the Congress leadership to refute the charge if “it had the guts”.
