Three-month extension for chief secretary

The Centre on Tuesday gave its nod for the extension of Chief Secretary Kaushik Mukherjee’s term by another three months following the request from the State government. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved his extension by only three months though the Karnataka government had asked for a four month extension. Mukherjee, a 1978 batch IAS officer, was to retire on September 30.

The State government had earlier sought a four- month extension of Mukherjee’s term on the ground that he headed several committees pertaining to drought relief and his services were required to maintain continuity due to the prevailing drought situation in the State.
