Teen kills friend over girlfriend

A 16-year-old boy killed his friend for allegedly misbehaving with his girlfriend in south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri.

The two initially indulged in an argument over the girl. The boy attacked his friend with a stick and then pulled out a knife to slit the victim’s throat.

Leaving the lifeless body at the spot, he returned home to join the victim’s family in search of the boy, police said on Wednesday.

The victim has been identified as Anand, a class 9 student of a private school in Ghitorni. According to police, Anand had left home with his laptop at 3:30 pm on Saturday. “He told his parents that he was going to a friend’s home in Ghitorni to get a software installed in the laptop,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South District) Prem Nath.

When he did not return home, Anand’s family launched a search. His father Shekhar later got a missing complaint registered with the local police station.

“Even as we were searching for Anand, his father received a phone call on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The caller told Shekhar that Anand was in his custody and he should withdraw his police complaint if he wanted to see his son alive,” Nath added.

Shekhar informed police who tried calling back on the number only to find it switched off. Police tracked down the person on whose identity proof the mobile phone number was purchased. The boy subsequently landed in their net on Tuesday.

It turned out the boy was among those who had helped Anand’s family search for him in the neighbourhood. He initially tried to mislead his interrogators, but later confessed.
He then led a police team to a spot where he killed Anand. The police have recovered the knife and Anand’s laptop bag.

During questioning, it turned out that Anand and the juvenile were friends. There was a girl who was close to the accused boy, but was being allegedly harassed by Anand. “The girl complained to him about Anand’s misbehaviour. Seeking revenge, the boy abducted Anand and killed him,” Nath said.
