Two farmers end lives in separate incidents

Even as the State government is announcing sops for farmers, two more farmers ended their lives in separate incidents in Mandya and Hassan districts on Saturday.

Unable to repay the mounting debt, a farmer committed suicide by jumping into a lake at Honnenahalli in Belluru hobli in the taluk on Saturday night.

The deceased farmer has been identified as Jayaramegowda alias Thimmegowda (55) of Lalanakere village, Bindiganavile hobli.

Jayaramegowda was found dead at a lake in Belluru on Sunday morning. He is said to have gone to his wife’s village Honnenahalli in Belluru hobli on Saturday.

According to his relatives, he had availed loan from Lalanakere Credit Cooperative Society and also from private moneylenders.

Dejected over life, he is said to have committed suicide. A case has been registered.
In another incident, a farmer committed suicide by jumping into a Harangi canal in  Kaduvinahosahalli in Konanur hobli of Hassan district on Saturday. Boregowda (67) is the deceased farmer.

He had grown jowar and potato on his six acre land. He is said to have taken the extreme step as the crops failed. He had availed a loan of Rs 4 lakh from Kalpatharu Grameena Bank. His son Puttaraju has filed a complaint that his father ended his life unable to clear debt.
