Mahindra unveils two vehicles from new Supro stable

Auto major Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) has launched two vehicles from a new platform called ‘Supro’.

While the Supro Van, an eight-seater diesel vehicle will compete against the Maruti Omni and Maruti EECO; the Supro Maxitruck, a load carrier with a payload capacity of one tonne, will compete with the likes of the Tata ACE and Tata ACE Mega.

While the Supro Van has been priced from Rs 4.38 lakh (ex-showroom Thane), the Supro Maxitruck has been priced starting at Rs 4.25 lakh (ex-showroom Thane).

“We have spent Rs 120 crore so far on the product development and the new Supro platform,” M&M President and Chief Executive (Automotive) Pravin Shah said.

The company plans to export both the products to the right-hand drive markets in the SAARC region, besides South Africa where it already has a presence.

The Supro platform comes with a warranty of two years/60,000 km (whichever is earlier), and will be available in attractive colour options of Metallic Brown and Red, Deep Blue and Diamond White.

The Supro Van will be available in three variants namely VX (base variant), LX (with power steering), ZX (with power steering and air condition) and the Supro Maxitruck also will be available in three variants — T2 (base variant), T4 (with power steering), T6 (with power steering and air condition) respectively.

Shah also clarified that the Supro will not be replacing the Maxximo. “The Supro is not a product comparable with Maxximo. The Supro will continue to co-exist with the Maxximo as the usage of both vehicles is different,” Shah said.
