Cong MLA belies Palike's claims on new waste units

Last Updated 20 October 2015, 21:27 IST

Yeshwantpur MLA S T Somashekhar of the ruling Congress exposed the truth of the new “modern and scientific waste-processing units”, at a meeting held at the Vikasa Soudha here on Tuesday.

The meeting was called by Transport and Bengaluru In-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy. Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner G Kumar Naik were also present.

Somashekar was vocal in his criticism of the Palike’s waste-processing units and warned the authorities that he would launch an agitation if garbage is not cleared in localities falling in his constituency in the next 15 days.

He said, “The BBMP promised that new garbage-processing units coming up at Seegehalli, Kannalli and three other places will be free from foul odour, insects and mosquitoes. The truth is these claims are a farce. Thousands of trucks of garbage is lying unprocessed in these units, polluting the entire atmosphere. I’m finding it difficult to answer to my electorate who are upset about this arrangement.”

Somashekhar said BBMP engineers lie through their teeth when they claim the waste-processing units are free from stench. “The garbage units in the Assembly constituency I represent have caused quite an unrest in villagers living around it. These units are the reason for foul smell and mosquito menace. If you fail to address this problem in 15 days, I will lead an agitation against the BBMP,” the MLA warned.
