The decomposed body of a three-year-old boy who went missing last week was found in a sack dumped in a drain in west Delhi’s Nangloi on Saturday.

Police said the boy’s genitals were chopped off. His family and locals suspect that he was killed for black magic. They have asked police to probe a mentally unstable woman’s role as she is often seen involved in unusual activities.

The deceased went missing on October 20. He was last seen outside his house. He lived with his mother in a nearby locality. Police said the boy’s father had expired two years ago. His mother works with a private factory in Nangloi.

“The sack in which the missing boy’s body was stuffed was found by some locals at Jawalapuri colony. They called the police control room and informed about foul smell emanating from the sack,” said a police officer. A portion of the boy’s hand was out of the sack.

A police team reached the spot at about 12:30 pm after which the sack was fished out of the drain. “When the sack was opened, the decomposed body of a male child was found inside it. We asked locals if anybody knew the boy or had seen him in the area,” the officer added.

The missing children’s list with Nangloi police station was examined and it was learnt that a case of kidnapping of a missing boy of the same age and physical descriptions similar to the deceased was registered there on October 20.

The mother of the missing boy was called at the mortuary of the hospital where the body was kept. She identified the deceased as her son. Accordingly, section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code was added in the FIR.

During probe, police learnt that the sack was also stuffed with gravels, raising suspicion that the murderer wanted to ensure that the sack doesn't float in the drain.

“The boy’s mother has accused a woman in her neighbourhood of allegedly kidnapping and killing her child. We are questioning the woman and the mother as well. The cause of death is yet to be ascertained,” the officer said.
