'Digital push for Industrie 4.0'

An expert on Tuesday said the integration of IoT (Internet of Things) and other related digital technologies with manufacturing, will unleash the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Addressing delegates at the technical seminar on MINI Industrie 4.0, Kota Harinarayana, the chairman of the Board of Governors at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur (IIITDMJ), said:  “Traditional manufacturing is due to digital transformation. Exponential growth in areas such as MEMS (Microelectromechanical systems) and NEMS (Nanoelectromechanical systems), IoT, Cloud, data analytics, artificial intelligence, robotics, and human machine interaction has played a huge role in almost all sectors. While a digital revolution has taken place in media, consumer products, and healthcare, among others, it has also impacted manufacturing.”

Industrie 4.0 is a collective term embracing a number of contemporary automation data exchange and manufacturing technologies. It involves the full integration of manufacturing technologies and systems to make a ‘smart factory’
