The Lokayukta registrar’s post should not be kept vacant for long as it is crucial for the functioning of the organisation, the High Court said on Wednesday.
Hearing a PIL that questioned the appointment of IAS officer P C Jaffer as registrar, Lokayukta, a division bench of acting Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna asked the government as why the post is left vacant after Jaffer was removed from the post. The government appointed the officer without consulting the High Court.
The bench observed that the government should consult the High Court while making the appointment. The government counsel sought four weeks time to file his reply.
