The chairman of the government appointed committee on safety of women, V S Ugrappa, recently visited Fortis Hospital in the City, following a complaint that a male attendant had molested a 54-year-old woman patient.

Speaking to reporters, Ugrappa said it should be made mandatory that all hospitals conduct background checks before inducting employees.

Ugrappa said the hospital management had told him that they had dismissed the accused, Shivakumar, from service. It has also come to light that the accused had also worked in a government hospital for five years, he said.

Health Minister U T Khader said that he had asked the enquiry committee to look into the issue and submit a report.
