As authorities launched a massive crackdown to foil the proposed “million march” called by hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani, separatists are uniting to make the event successful on November 7 – the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a rally here.

While pro-independence JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik has already announced his support to Geelani’s call, moderate Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar on Monday called for observing November 6 as a day of solidarity with Muslims of Jammu, for which he has sent invitations to Geelani and Malik.

“A convention will be organised after Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid Nowhatta for which Geelani and Malik, besides other leaders, are being invited,” a spokesman of the moderate Hurriyat said.

Geelani has called for “million march” to TRC grounds, which is barely a few metres from SK Stadium, to counter the Modi rally. A senior police officer told Deccan Herald that no one will be allowed to “disrupt peace” in Kashmir. “The Hurriyat rally is aimed at creating law and order problem. We won’t allow any parallel march or any rally on November 7 by separatists,” he said.
