The town police have booked Shivakumar, a deputy superintendent of police with the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force, for rape.

P A Korawara, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kolar, told Deccan Herald on Wednesday that the victim, a girl from Srinivaspur taluk in Kolar district, had filed a complaint before a court which directed the police to investigate it. Accordingly, a complaint has been registered, he added.

The victim said Shivakumar raped her during a visit to her Chikkajala house on January 9, 2014. He threatened to kill her if she dared disclose the matter to anyone else, she added.

Shivakumar had come to her house, promising to help her in reclaiming the money and jewellery she had lent to her relative, Venkatesh, two years ago. She had lodged a complaint against Venkatesh at the Srinivaspur police station. Shivakumar was Circle Police Inspector in Kolar at that time.

“Shivakumar got to know about the complaint and called me on the phone, claiming to be a social worker and offering his help. He called me to a hotel in Bengaluru several times, professed his love for me and behaved indecently with me,” the complaint says.

Denies charges

When contacted, Shivakumar said the girl had met him in connection with a crime case and tried to extort money from him. “Since I refused to pay up, she lodged this complaint. The accusation of rape against me is totally false,” he said.
