In the aftermath of a violent clash in Mangaluru jail on Monday, which left two inmates dead, the police recovered a few knives from the prison cells on Wednesday.

The recovered knives have been sent to the forensic laboratory to ascertain whether they were the same weapons used to stab Madoor Isubu and Ganesh Shetty inside the jail, said City Police Commissioner S Murugan.

The police also recovered seven SIM cards, as many memory cards, mobile batteries, chargers, electric wires, cutting pliers, lighters, testers, an electric heater, chilli powder and iron box from various cells in the jail.

Body warrant

The police have filed an application in the District and Sessions Court seeking body warrants against undertrials Lithesh, Shobharaj, Yuvaraj, Pradeep and Umesh Kumbar, for conducting an inquiry into the murder of Isubu and Shetty.

To a query on shifting notorious inmates from the prison, the commissioner said the police would take a decision after discussing the matter with the prison authorities.

Mysuru prison Chief Superintendent P V Anand Reddy is conducting an inquiry into the incident.
