Last Updated 05 November 2015, 18:23 IST

It has been decided not to facilitate procession during the Tipu Sultan Jayanti celebrations to be held on November 10.

During a preliminary meet convened by legislator B B Ningaiah in this connection at the Taluk Panchayat in Mudigere on Thursday, the permission for the procession was denied as it would not be possible to facilitate police security for the procession, in the wake of a fair at Devirammana Betta and Diwali. The department of police has passed an order in this regard.

Lecture

A lecture on Tipu Sultan will be organised and the speaker will not belong to any group, the meeting resolved. Representatives of pro-Hindu organisations, who took part in the meet, strongly opposed the celebration of Tipu Sultan Jayanti.

Vishwa Hindu Parishat Taluk President Kannehalli Bharat warned of staging severe protests if the State government stands by its idea of Tipu Sultan Jayanti. Taluk Panchayat President Anajur Subraya Gowda, Tahsildar Sharadamba and others were present.
