The Bharatiya Janata Party will move a motion in the Legislative Council on November 17 for the removal of Justice Bhaskar Rao as the Lokayukta.

BJP State president Pralhad Joshi said here on Friday that the party enjoyed a majority in the Council and had obtained the signatures of all its MLCs for the motion. The party is also in talks with the JD(S) to secure its support.

“We will support the government if the ruling party itself moves such a motion. There can’t be any room for politics on issues such as this,” Joshi said.

He said it was well-known fact that JD(S) State president H D Kumaraswamy always made a U-turn on all his statements. “He claims to substantiate his charges with documents in several cases. But in how many cases has he done so till now?” Joshi asked.

He said law and order had collapsed in the State after the Congress came to power and the chief minister had not been taking any action to check cricket betting, single-digit lottery and corruption. He said the chief minister should drop Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya from the Cabinet in the wake of corruption charges against his wife.
