They have the same design sensibilities and aesthetic sense and they know no dearth for creativity. Well-known names in the fashion industry, Rahul Khanna and Rohit Gandhi have groomed to perfection many Bollywood stars. Creating signature looks with unmatched cuts and patterns, their new collection ‘An Early Frost’, true to its name, are the designs of the cold season spilling the colours of the icy weather.

“‘An Early Frost’ is a story about winter and its harsh beauty. The collection embodies the colours of cold forest, mist, ash, grey and dark oak. Prints and textures have been inspired from the fur textures and animal skins,” say the designer duo. A tangible reality of the mixed emotions of the designers, the silhouettes for the season have a lot of layering and exaggerated sleeves. Capes, high-waisted skirts, embossed dresses, lazer-mesh jackets are the key signatures of the collection. The designs are “together a lament and a celebration of life” and the acid-wash silk fabrics add that raw opulence to the patterns.

Versatile designers who have rocked the fashion ramps in the country and abroad, Rahul and Rohit go back in time and say that their early life in the glamour industry was a “lot of struggle and hard work”. But each time they designed a piece, the gleam on the client’s face was unmatchable and it is this satisfaction, which they receive as a reward from their clients that became and still is their ‘driving force’.

Ask them if they compromise on certain ideas while working together and Rohit says, “It has been a beautiful and a memorable journey together with a lot of ups and downs. It has been a constant learning and evolving process. We feel lucky to be two minds behind a collection. I wonder how designers work as individuals.”

Elegant and classy, they follow the contemporary philosophy of design and call them “modern clothes with a lot of emphasis on silhouettes and detailing”. With subtle colours for the season, the designs are a global collection that cater to the client who is “confident and well travelled”. The designers say that they are their own competition and always compete with their previous collection and come up with new and innovated clothes.

They now have made their designs available in the City at the Evoluzione store. Commenting on the Bengaluru market, Rohit says, “It is a smart and modern city where people are looking for contemporary modern wear, which is a heads up for us.” With big plans in the pipeline, the designer duo have a note to the budding designers here, “Work hard and never follow trends. Always focus on your signature look and be original.”
