JOIN USVedant races to gold
Vedant Banerjee of Bishop Cotton Boys School clinched the gold in the under-16 boys’ 100 metres in the first leg of the 27th edition of the Deccan Athletic Club (DAC) Weekend meet, sponsored by Deccan Herald and Prajavani, at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Sunday.
Banerjee clocked 12 seconds to finish ahead of Sharwin Pinto (St Joseph’s Indian High School, 12.2 seconds) while Sanil SK of Bishop Cotton claimed the third spot with a timing of 12.3.
In the girls’ (U-15) 100 metres race, Evangeline Sharon B from Bishop Cotton Girls’ High School took the top honours in 13.2 seconds.
Sophia School’s HH Preethi Chand finished second in 13.5 seconds, while Vidya J of Indiranagar High School completed the podium in 13.9 seconds.
Yashas BR of St Joseph’s Indian High School won both the long jump (5.52M) and triple jump (12.00M) in the boys’ U-16 category while Lovely Leon clinched two golds in the 100 metres and long jump in the boys’ U-13 section.
In the girls’ U-12 section, New St Mary’s High School’s Priyanka and Spoorthy K Chengappa of Vidyaniketan School grabbed two gold medals each.
Priyanka won the 800M (2:48.5 seconds) and 1500M (5:35.8) races while Spoorthy finished at the top spot in the triple jump (9.37M) and high jump (1.21M) events.
